207 – The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962)

John Wayne again.This guy gets around.This film’s in black and white but I’d bet you a fiver he’s wearing the same red shirt from the other two films off this list.This western is a little more bearable because JW isn’t the main character,it’s James Stewart.I don’t mind Stewart as an actor,there’s something about his accent and that southern drawl.Well about the film;it’s starts out GREAT,what with Wayne being dead and stuck in a box,then Stewart tells the tale of (see film title) in the style of one long flash back.Stewart is a lawyer and brings law and order to a small town out west that seems to be over run with highway men and the like.Not the worst western.

247 – The Searchers (1958)

Indians,taste better with ketchup and mustard.

I’m only a few films in and already I’ve hit another western.This one’s got Bruce Wayne’s (John Wayne) hardy brother in it too.He must have made this film right after the last one as he seems to be wearing the same clothes.The story is about some injuns who kidnap some girls and there’s these two guys trying to track them down and bring them back.It spans over 5 years but it could be over a week with the way it’s played out.One good character in the film is Moses.Brings a bit of humour to the thing.This western is shorter than the other one which makes it a bit more watch-able and the fact that its filmed on location against some spectacular scenery is a plus too.

249 – Rio Bravo (1959)

Tacos?

Rio Bravo – a film about alcoholism.This film is a bit of a double edged dildo,half crap halve not too bad.its a slow burner.The beginning is pretty crap , it’s got loads of stereotypical western shit and everyone is over acting.It seems like it would be a good show on stage if they cut it to about an hour but as a film for over two hours,not too good.

Dean Martin learns to act an hour in.Bruce Wayne is a massive dummy.He must be in his 50’s but there’s a good looking woman that’s 22 who is mad for the ride but i guess he’s too dumb to see it.now stumpy i don’t know what to make of that buck.he seems like the basis for all the old west gold prospectors or something.Everyone in this film seems like a caricature of a person and that’s where the theatre thing comes in , over acting lawd.Some of the action scenes are over dubbed and you can notice it a mile off and for 90% of the whole film you’re totally aware you’re watching a set or sound-stage but other than that it’s okay.
