136 – Strangers on a Train (1951)

i was framed i tell ye,framed!

The best Hitchcock so far and once again it’s about ‘the perfect murder’.All three films I’ve watched so far have pretty much the same story.Guy thinks he has the perfect crime, commits said crime, blabs about it in public and gets caught. What makes this one a step above the others are all the clever camera effects he uses. Here’s a few I’ll mention:The one in the picture of the murder reflected in the victims glasses that lay on the ground, the lighter glowing in the woman’s eyes in a later scene and finally the scene where Guy hits Bruno in the face. The film is called Strangers on a Train but the title is incorrect. While Guy knows nothing about Bruno,Bruno knows everything about Guy.You see Guy is a tennis player and has some celebrity status and is in the media. The basis plot is they both have someone they want dead so why not switch.Criss-cross.Bruno is serious and follows through much to Guys amazement. In the end Bruno turns out to be a mental case.

154 – The Secret in Their Eyes (2009)

who farted in the elevator?

who farted in the elevator?

Wow.That was fucking dark. Here we have an Argentinian film from a few years back. It’s a psychological thriller and is told through flashbacks and current day.A former councellor or detective is writing his memoirs and its basically tall about this one case he had back in the mid 70’s.The case is a brutal rape homicide. There’s a rape scene about 4 minutes in.It’s only like 3-4 seconds but it fucking jilted me.i had to stop the film and type some other shit to take my mind off it.Normally i turn off a film if there’s a rape or something.does bode well with me,i loose fate in humanity  Any who the film runs for just over 2 hours and just when you think its over there’s it’s not.i wont spoil it.As i said the film spans 25 years with the same actors, the make-up and aging looks very good.Best I’ve seen.Go watch this film, the subs i had for it were a bit wonky so have a look around online there might be some better ones.

This one's like an early Kirsten Stewart with her permanently stoned acting

This one’s like an early Kirsten Stewart with her permanently stoned acting

Hitchcock again here and this one’s a corker. It seems this film is the complete opposite of Rope that was on the list earlier. In this one the main guy devises a plot to kill his wife and get the insurance. The plan is almost too perfect and he’s too cold and calculated. But in true Hitchcock style;the shit hits the fan.The only real fault in the film is this blonde ones acting. She’s  perpetually stoned or retarded or doped to the gills. I’m not sure what year this films set but women weren’t walking around like zombies.

Great film.Another play to film adaptation. There seems to good few on the list,in the last 10 or so any ways. This one features 2 actors; Michael Caine and Laurence Olivier.Great performances by both.It tells the story of a crime writer who invites his wifes bit on the side over for a chat in which he propositions him with a scam.Do a fake break in steal my jewels and i’ll do an insurance claim, you fuck off with my wife with 170,00 quid ill get 250,000 on the claim. But there’s an ulterior motives. The writer is an eccentric game player with a flair for the flamboyant but Caine has a plan too.Well acted, doesn’t seem like a 40 year old film.

any requests ?

Hitchcock. This is quite a short film and seems like you’re watching a play adaptation; one location, lots of dialogue and not much action. It’s also a colour film made in 1948 so it looks a bit weird in the beginning but you get used to it after 20 minutes. The film’s meant to be one continuous shot but you can see where they cut it about 4-5 times where they zoom into something black and then zoom back out. The stories a simple one;two guys, one a shrewd ass and one a nervous wreck, kill a man for the sheer thrill of if.The perfect murder.Except they leave clues everywhere, talk about killing, set up his girlfriend with another friend, have a party with the body in the room, look over at the body when someone mentions the corpses name and a thousand other fuck ups. These guys are clowns.

Kristen Stewart? How the fuck did you get in this film?

Another oldie. I’m not sure if things were well different back in 1943 but i initially wouldn’t have thought so but this film seems weird for a few reasons. This one portrays women as blithering idiots who seem content with being just another dumb woman. The relationship between uncle Charlie and his niece in the first half of the film seems creepy and unnatural. The score at the beginning is too much, you shouldn’t need a thousand strong string section to create tension where there is none.My ears were almost bleeding. The film just didn’t work for me : I was totally aware I was watching a film.A shit one at that.
