Haley Joel Fucking Osment, what a little shit. There’s something about his face that makes me want to punch it.The little shit can’t act.Every time i see him i’m reminded that i’m watching a film and it spoils the whole effect.Lets set that aside.Apart from that this film is excellent. The first 15 minutes i thought Hanks was over acting the retarded angle with Forrest but as the film went on i understood that he was doing something that is called ‘acting’,powerful stuff.Forset Gump is about a guy who’s waiting for a bus who starts to tell anyone who’s listening about his life story.Interesting stuff. For the first chapter he tells a black woman how he was named after a leader of the  KKK.Great conversation starter. The films got a cool story with Forest interacting with some major people and times in history. The CGI looks well for a film of its age, better than the last film on the list in my opinion but then again there’s no orcs and dragons flying about.Forests love interest is a bit of a douche.Ditching at every possible opportunity so she can fuck off and see the world. But once he’s a millionaire she lands back. The she’s off again. Then she catches a ‘virus’,it’s fucking AIDS innit, and needs Forest to watch the kid.Is it even his?The whole film has a great soundtrack, full of nostalgic hits from the different eras he’s knocking about in.

36 – Apocalypse Now (1979)

:(

😦

Apocalypse Now is the sequel to Mel Gibsons smash hit Apocalyptico also about war and jungles.Not.No it’s about a colonel,Brando, who goes renegade during the Vietnam war and forms a killing squad of south Vietnamese who travel about the jungle massacring the enemy.Sheen is hired by the army to sneak into Cambodia and kill the insane Brando. As he gets closer and closer to the target the starts to relate with him and when it comes to the crunch he doesn’t know what to do.There’s a few famous faces in the cast here, with a very young Harrison Ford,an always old looking Duvall and a teenage Larry Fishbourne. Magnificently shot and with the odd bit of humor and surrealism.Like with the USO show in the middle of nowhere and the playboy bunnies what nearly get bum rushed by the randy soldiers.

50 – Taxi Driver (1976)

I LOL'ed at this.

I LOL’ed at this.

As famous as Taxi Driver is I’ve never seen it before. It’s about an ex marine and Vietnam vet who works the night shift driving a taxi in New York. The isolation and loneliness get to be too much for him and he cracks up.He definitely has some sort of post traumatic stress disorder too from the war.In the beginning he’s stuck in a rut and is boozing it up and taking pills. But half way through the film he formulates a plan to get rid of the scum in the city by buying some guns and shooting them. It’s this idea that fills his life with a sense of purpose and he gets into shape and gets off the booze and that.Taxi Driver is a bit of a weird film.Travis is a bit of tough one to work out.In parts he seems like he socially inept but in others he seems really confident and put his point across easily. But it swings back and forth so much you don’t know how he’s going to react.Travis strikes up a relationship with a teenage twelve year old hooker and he tries to do 1 good thing with his life;get her out of the game and back with her family.Which he does in his own blood-lust filled way.Good film overall, there was a few scenes i would have lobbed a few minutes off them and sometimes the trumpet,or whatever the fuck instrument was, was a little over bearing.I checked the credits and Scorsese was a part in it.The massive douche who’s watching his cheating wife.Keep an eye out for him.

132 – The Deer Hunter (1978)

Bang! and the dirt is gone

Bang! and the dirt is gone

Another Vietnam film here. But  with a lot less focus on the war itself and more on how it affects the human mind and the toll it ultimately took on 3 main characters. The deer hunter starts out as this comedy romp type films with 5 friends. They seem like your average bunch of friends, just joking around and doing stupid stuff and drinking. All’s fine here. But 3 of the guys are going to fight for their country in the Vietnam war. It seems like they don’t even know why they’re going. The film just in a bit then and we see it’s not all rosy as the 3 guys are being kept in a brutal p.o.w. camp and they Vietcong are forcing the prisoners to play Russian roulette.De Niro hatches a plan which involves them playing with 3 or 4 bullets and with the extra bullets he has enough to attack them and escape.Tense stuff.Well soon the lads are given leave or complete their term or lose some legs and are no longer in the army.Walken has other ideas,he becomes addicted to heroin and is a mess.A good enough film, could maybe have been 25 minutes shorter and the title/theme music by John Williams is a bit crap.

War.What is it good for?Absolutely nothing.Platoon is written and directed by Oliver Stone and he’s done a great job is showing the in-humanity and reality of the Vietnam war.Charlie Sheen is the lead as Chris,a middle class college student who drops out, against his parents wishes, and enlists as private first class artillery. So basically a front line soldier. He does this because he believes it’s unethical for all the second class citizens to be fighting for his freedom while he sits on his ass.In the beginning of the film Chris in naive and over analysis’s his fellow platoon members. And because he’s middle class they hate his guts.By the end of the film Chris has become what he despised at the start and we see the effect war has on the human mind. There’s some really brutal scenes that I would say pretty much happened as-is. Stone also touches on the narcotic abuse by the american army,i think some 70% of vets returning had to be treated for opiate withdraw when they got back home.
