Drop of incest on the go here and by the looks of Hans face it looks like he could be Hand-Solo yet.Get it?Hand-Solo?No?

Like the Lord of The Rings trilogy I’m just after watching these jumbled up again.I think it was third-first then second. This one was my favourite.Comparing it to the first one, this looked way more polished and the special effects were a step above A New Hope. The over all look of the film was great,a lot more crisp i thought.I was looking to see if there was any difference between the camera or processing specs for this and A New Hope and all i could find was this one had Panavision.Maybe i just had a low resolution version of the previous film.About the film, well we have all the cronies back together and still hanging out with the rebels. The opening scene i burst out laughing when Luke gets a slap in the face from a Yeti.Yes a fucking Yeti.Darth Vader is at it again and is hunting down Luke to try and make him join the dark side, but Luke’s off training with Yoda. Yoda is one weird little fucker, hard to get a straight answer out of him and he pisses off Luke by acting like idiot. On the whole a good film,Lucas took a step back from this one and i see him with only two credit-Story By and Producer all the rest like screenplay and direction are by other bucks.

Here’s an ad for MasterCard i spotted.

I was about 5 minutes in and i had to stop the film to see if i had downloaded the right film.Lucas just throws you into the film, there’s no hanging about, that’s why i thought i had the fifth or sixth in the series.I didn’t. Lucas knows how to write a good story i’ll give him that. It’s got adventure, action, comedy and a few other bits that i thought stood out, maybe for the wrong reasons, like when Luke finds his aunt and uncles and they look like they’re just after climbing out of an oven in Auschwitz. Gruesome. Like all films there’s a few bits and pieces i’ll mention,I’ll start with the good. The special effects:You can see Lucas is trying to go the extra mile and will put in the effort to have set pieces where he can and will have some really nice props,be it costumes/suits/aliens or what ever in lieu of CGI.I noticed a small plot hole, well maybe not a hole, but Ben mentions when they find the scavengers truck in the desert that the holes and blaster damage is definitely from Stormtroopers because it’s so accurate.Accurate my ass, them Stormtroopers couldn’t hit a target 2 metres in from of themselves. In one scene where Han and Cheewie run back there’s 6-7 of them when he turns a corner and not one of the buggers gets a shot close to him.And i’ll finish up with a question. If Darth vader is the last Jedi and is pretty powerful does he know Luke and Leia are his kids?Surely he must,he was there when they were made wasn’t he.

58 – Aliens (1986)

It's the future. We have machines that can travel through space. We have pods that can freeze people for 457 years and keep them alive. We even have machine that can turn a barren planet into a habitable one for humans, yet this is the best photo we have of Ripleys daughter?

I saw Aliens recently, about a year ago,but i thought maybe i had seen Alien.Nope.Now I’m wondering what happened in Alien. My minds blank.Bill Paxton is in this film and he’s one of only 3 people who has been killed by Alien,Predator and The Terminator. What an achievement.Hold the boat,i just noticed that Bishop, the android, is the other guy.Small world.Aliens carries on where Alien left off.Ripley is found drifting in space by a salvage crew who turn the ship over to the authorities. It turns out she’s been in stasis for 57 years. In that time her daughter has died, but only 2 years earlier.Ripley finds herself  at the bad end of an inquest regarding the destruction of the last planet. The people who were financing it have lost millions of space dollars. She has been de-moted and is reduced to working as a labourer and is pretty depressed. She’s then approached regarding another planet that was being terraformed but they encountered the same Aliens. She jumps at the chance to go back and joins the crew of gun-ho marines. As you can guess it all goes tits up.Aliens has some spectacular looking sets, some of the CGI doesn’t blend too good with actual footage but what can you expect from a 1986 film.Other than that it’s a good show. There’s a bit after the credits but it’s very small i almost missed it.

I got pretty bored watching this that i forgot to take the screen shot until the last few seconds.

I don’t like Wall-e and the main reason why is the rubbish 1950’s music peppered and repeated to death throughout it.Who’s the target audience here? Not me anyways by the sounds of it.Don’t get me wrong the animation is on par and the musical score is pretty good but the repetitive stock footage of the all singing and dancing musical numbers just didn’t agree with me.Also with the Disney films there’s always some religious connotation’s that i don’t agree with. Here we have a robot called Eve that lands in his garden or eden and steals a plant.fuck why don’t we just call Wall-e Adam(Automated Detritus Arranging Machine) and be done with it.It’s obvious enough as it is.The only other thing i have a little beef, and it’s minor, with is the real actors used in pieces in the beginning and in the pre-recorded messages for the pilot, yet when we make it to the space station every-ones turned into a comical fat assed CGI representations of humans. One thing i noticed that i thought was a plot hole but maybe isn’t is the whole idea behind Eve getting the plant.I thought they needed the plant to get the co ordinates to get home, but obviously not if eve just came back from there and was was going to blast wall-e back home in a pod.But on second thoughts i think that its that the ship needs the plant to be able to accept the route and fly back.

You did?I just open up Chrome and start up a Private Window and do some Googleing.

Rashômon is the name of a city in Japan that’s a bit wrecked from wars and fighting. At the gates there are 3 men sheltering from the rain. It’s bucketing down, real heavy stuff. Two of the guys were just at a trail as witnesses, the third guy is a stranger to them. The trial is for a Samurai that was found dead in the woods and I’m going to use the word Samurai as loosely as possible because this guy is useless. Anyways there are 4 people testifying at the trail with their sides of the story. Each one different form the last.Even the guy who was killed gets a chance to testify via the medium of a medium.Like when Sam jumps into Rita body in Ghost. All the stories stink to high heaven and it seems like not one of them could lie right in bed.The films works well with all the different stories and parts that are a little similar, but the overall message the director is getting across is everyone looks out for number one and everyone lies. There’s quite a bit of maniacal laughter in this film,so if that kind of stuff scares you then I’d give it a miss.

93 – 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

The lads on their iPads.

Wow.Now that was something else.Produced,Directed and Co-Written (screenplay)by Kubrick himself. So he pretty much has creative control on the whole she-bang.Like  Clockwork Orange Kubrick has the film strewn with classical music much to it’s advantage.I’d seen this film maybe 10 years ago and from what i remember i got a bit lost at the end.Same thing happened here, one minute Dave was in one of the orbs heading for Jupiter then it seems like Hal sneaked some mushrooms or mxe into Daves oxygen and things go a bit crazy for a few minutes. It’s a bit of a trip near the end.Kubrick is good at building suspense, some scenes are really tense and in any modern film they would climax with a loud noise and a cat jumping out or something dumb like that. There’s a few 3 minute bits where the screen is just black,at the beginning of the film i thought i was missing a codec on my computer but eventually i got a visual.I went on wikipedia to see if i was missing some integral part of the film, but no i was not. There’s a lot of speculation as to what it all means and went on to say that  he “encouraged people to explore their own interpretations of the film, and refused to offer an explanation of “what really happened” in the movie”.Good man,i think its about the Monolith being a superior being and creating the human race.Heck maybe it took Dave back in time and he was the original ‘man’ hence the foetus floating to earth.Or maybe not.I’ll have to mull it over for a bit.

Worst part of Bladerunner? Daryl Hannah and her stupid hair.

I have to give it to Ridley Scott for Bladerunner,i can’t imagine trying to make this in 1982 without the CGI and all the bells and whistles we have today. The large sets, the props, the wardrobe the locations are all pretty amazing looking. For those who don’t know Bladerunner is a movie adaptation of Phillip K.Dicks book ‘Do androids dream of electric sheep’.Dicks was an amazing sci-fi writer and many of his books were made into some top notch films. These include;Total Recall,A scanner darkly and Minority Report just to name a few.The plot outline is that Ford is a Bladerunner a specialist cop that hunts and kills humanoid robots (or replicants). There are 6 new model replicants that have busted out of their jobs, which usually consist of stuff too dangerous for humans to do-slave labour really, and have arrived on earth. This is all set in some sort of dystopian future in L.A. in 2019.A visually astounding film. But shame i seen it about 4 months ago so wasn’t 100% focused on it.It would have better if they cast someone else as Daryl Hannahs character maybe Sharon Stone or Michelle Pfeiffer.
