100 – Die Hard (1988)

Die Hard is probably one of the most over looked Christmas movies ever.I completely forgot it was a Christmas film until this re-watch.Die Hard deserves to be at place 100,nay it would deserve to be at 80 if i had my way. It’s got a good balance of action with comedy. The one liners and quips are good along with some visual humour too, like when the Asian guy gets hungry and starts to eat some candy bar.Willis is none to young in this, even in some parts he seems too old.But the appeal of him,he’s got that ‘everyman’ appeal to him.If you haven’t seen Die Hard i’ll explain it.Terrorists take over the Nakatomi building. They’re after $600 milllion in barabonds. Which are big A3 sheets of paper with not much written on them. This all happens during the companies Christmas party and Johns wife,Holly,is in attendance. So it’s left to John to get a signal to the police and save the day.Shooting, bombs and explosions ensue.

134 – Sin City (2005)

Swastika throwing stars.Cool.

Swastika throwing things.Cool.

Here we have Frank Millers Sin City,a fucking feast for the eyes. There’s about 3 or 4 stories that all seem to overlap at some stage throughout the film. Some quite subtlety./The cast for the film is astounding, tons of recognisable faces some not so recognisable (Mickey Rourke) and the overall aesthetic of the film just blows me away.I know there is a series of books and I had heard some time ago there would be a trilogy but eight years in and still nothing. You may have seen one of  Millers other graphic novels which has been turned into a film,300,shot in a similar style with the excessive blood splattering and all that.I can’t get into the plot for Sin City because it would take too long. All i can say is;if you haven’t seen it,then go see it.

141 – The Sixth Sense (1999)

"keep moving cheese dick" - Bruce Willis

“keep moving cheese dick” – Bruce Willis

Wow. Every time i watch The Sixth Sense i always get shocked by the ending.Not.The Sixth Sense has a re-watch value of zero.Once you’ve seen it then that’s it.Fuck buying the DVD.For those who haven’t seen it I’ll describe the plot.Bruce is a child psychologist and Osmond is a child with social problems and maybe a personality disorder. They work together to try and sort shit out.I can’t go much deeper than that without spoiling it.Toni Colette is great in this as is Willis, however i think i would have cast someone different as Bruce’s wife, maybe Naomi Watts and i hate Hailey Joel Osmend for some reason.Every time i see him i just want to punch him in his ugly jap-eyed face but i’m not sure who to cast for him. There’s not many kid actors around now,or even then when it came out.Maybe Arnie would have done it better.

Twelve Monkeys is another gem by Terry Gilliam. I do have some major gripes with time travel films but this is the only one that gets it right in my opinion. Can’t change the past or the future it’s already set out, the complete opposite of Back to The Future. That’s not to say i don’t enjoys the exploits of Marty McFly. I’ve seen 12 monkeys about half a dozen times and i think maybe that’s too much.Maybe twice is okay. The plot is; in a future (around 2035) where a virus has nearly wiped out mankind people have taken to living underground.A group of scientists have developed a time machine and send ‘volunteers’ back to find out how and where the virus broke out.So they can find a cure in their present time ,2035.
