103 – Batman Begins (2005)

Batman Begins is a great reboot of the old Batman franchise. It’s good to get back to the dark and sinister elemant that Tim Burton first started before it went all camp and neon with Clooney and Kilmer.Batman Begins tells how Bruce Wayne came to be Batman and bridges the gap from adolesents to grown man.It rurns out he went travelling and i’n not talking about a gap year in south east Asia.He gets spotted by Liam Neeson in a Chinese jail.Neeson is part of the League of Shadows, they’re a tough as nails ninja vigilate type group. This is where Bruce gets some good fighting skills. After all the ninja stuff Bruce decides to go back to Gotham to clean the place up,methaphorically. But as things are going good Liam Neeson shows up again and tries to kill Bruce. There was 1 bit that got my goat. When Bruce is training with Liam up in the mountains and burns it down to escape,Neeson almost slides off a cliff by Bruce saves him and takes him to some guys house who says he’ll look after him. Then later Neeson burns down Bruces manor and says”I need to restore the balance, you burned down my house and left me to die, consider us even”
Bullshit,Bruce saved you.For it to be even you’d have to come back into the burning house and pull him out.He didn’t.

Here’s an anime from Ghibli Studios.I think it’s a steampunk film. The film’s not meant to be set in any specific time, not past or future, but in an alternative present where mechanics haven’t evolved past the steam engine. The film is about good and bad witches and wizards and spells cast by both. One of the best aspects of anime is you can get some really bizarre and unique stories.Western animation seems to stick to a set of strict plot guidelines, but Asian stuff can be really out-there.I did notice after a wee bit that Christian Bale was voicing the main guy and all i could think was Batman with that forced husky voice.Maybe the subtitled version would be better. The subs would be more accurate;they change the dialogue to sync with the lips which were animated originally for the Japanese script.
