25 – Casablanca (1942)

The blue parrot?More like the grey parrot.

The blue parrot?More like the grey parrot.

One of the most quoted films ever in my opinion. The last 10 minutes more than the rest of the film.Bogart stars as Rick, owner of Ricks American Café.As you probably guessed the film is set in Casablanca in the north of Africa during Germany’s invasion through Europe.Loads of people are trying to leave for America because shits about to hit the fan  and the only way to get to the U.S. is via Lisbon but there’s Nazis everywhere so people have to go to Casablanca to get to Lisbon.Ricks old flame shows up with her husband intending to leave but Rick has acquired their travel documents. That sums up the whole plot. Not much to it.There’s a few good jokes , notably the old couple who get taught English by some guy who can hardly speak it himself. The song ‘as time goes by’ is played about 28 times in the 105 minutes of film.No mean feat I’ll give you that.

143 – Hotel Rwanda (2004)

Don't come in!I'm wanking.

Don’t come in!I’m wanking.

Hotel Rwanda is a romantic comedy about two oddball american tourists who meet in a hotel in Rwanda by chance.Not.Hotel Rwanda is the true story of the hutu genocide of the tootsi people back in the early nineties. This film is by no means a walk in the park, pretty heavy stuff in fact, and at times hard to believe that this kind of shit can happen in modern days.Don Cheadle is excellent in his performance of Paul the hotel manager who will do anything to save his friends despite him himself being a Hutu. The film highlights Africas corruption both with officials and the army.I don’t think i would have cast Nick Nolte,he doesn’t fit the bill as a U.N. dude with his raspy voice and old beaten face, but that’s just my opinion.
