Another Vietnam film here. But with a lot less focus on the war itself and more on how it affects the human mind and the toll it ultimately took on 3 main characters. The deer hunter starts out as this comedy romp type films with 5 friends. They seem like your average bunch of friends, just joking around and doing stupid stuff and drinking. All’s fine here. But 3 of the guys are going to fight for their country in the Vietnam war.It seems like they don’t even know why they’re going. The film just in a bit then and we see it’s not all rosy as the 3 guys are being kept in a brutal p.o.w. camp and they Vietcong are forcing the prisoners to play Russian roulette.De Niro hatches a plan which involves them playing with 3 or 4 bullets and with the extra bullets he has enough to attack them and escape.Tense stuff.Well soon the lads are given leave or complete their term or lose some legs and are no longer in the army.Walken has other ideas,he becomes addicted to heroin and is a mess.A good enough film, could maybe have been 25 minutes shorter and the title/theme music by John Williams is a bit crap.
